Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol employed to execute commands on a remote server or to exchange information between a website hosting server and a client. As the information exchanged by the two sides is protected, a 3rd party simply cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a preferred means of controlling an Internet hosting account. The commands that can be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, for example, the options are limited because you simply won't have root access to the server, so you can only create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, export and import databases, and so forth. They're all actions which are executed in the shared hosting account and do not require a higher level of access. With a virtual or a dedicated server, you will be able to install server-side software or to restart the web server or just a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, but if you do not use a UNIX-like OS, there are a variety of apps for other OSs, you can employ to connect to the remote web server as well.

SSH Telnet in Shared Hosting

When you have a shared hosting account with our company and you'd like to manage your content remotely through SSH, you may receive SSH access to the account via your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package doesn't offer this feature as standard, you can add it with several mouse clicks from the Upgrades menu. Within the SSH section of the Control Panel, you will see the host, the port number and the username that you need to use when you connect to the account. You can even choose what password you want to use, given that it doesn't have to be the same as the one for the account. We've prepared several Help articles where you could find all of the commands that you'll be able to use with a shared hosting package, plus examples of how they are used. Furthermore, if SSH access is permitted for your account, you'll be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection using a standard client like FileZilla, for example.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting

All our semi-dedicated server accounts provide you with the possibility to access and manage them through SSH. If the plan that you've picked includes this feature by default, you simply need to allow the SSH access function using the corresponding section of the Hepsia Control Panel. If the function is listed as an optional upgrade, you can quickly include it using the Add Services/Upgrades link in the Hepsia Control Panel and it shall be available within a minute. We have various help articles and educational videos regarding the use of SSH commands to manage your account and a full list of the commands that you can perform together with various examples to give you a better perception of what you can do. If SSH is active, you will also be able to establish an SFTP connection to the account and to upload files safely and securely through any FTP app which supports the feature.

SSH Telnet in VPS Hosting

When you order a new virtual private server from us, it'll provide full root access and you'll be able to connect to the server and to control everything using an SSH console. The function is provided by default with all package deals, so you shall not need to enable or upgrade anything. Your website hosting server will be set up soon after you order it and as soon as you get the Welcome e-mail with the login info, you may connect through the server’s primary IP address and begin working. Since the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is separated from the other accounts inside the physical machine, there'll be no restrictions regarding the commands that you can use. You shall have full root access, so that you can install and run any app which can work on a Linux machine, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot the entire machine or any software running on it.
